Problem and Solution

Many people are interested in learning Tarot card reading but struggle to find accessible and reliable resources to develop their skills. Traditional in-person workshops and courses can be limited in availability, inconvenient, or expensive. As a result, aspiring Tarot enthusiasts may feel discouraged or unsure of where to begin their journey.

I designed and developed this course to provide the perfect solution by offering a flexible and accessible learning platform. With a comprehensive online course, individuals can conveniently access expert instruction and guidance from the comfort of their own homes. They can learn at their own pace, fitting the lessons into their busy schedules. The course provides a structured curriculum, interactive exercises, and practical techniques, allowing learners to develop their Tarot reading skills effectively. This accessible format empowers individuals to unlock the secrets of the Tarot and confidently pursue their passion for divination, regardless of their location or prior experience.

Process

Storyboarding

The Storyboarding process for our eLearning Tarot course begins with the powerful collaborative tool, Miro. I begin by identifying the learning outcomes and enhancing them with concepts to make the learning outcomes actionable. With Miro's intuitive interface, I create a virtual canvas where I can visually organize the course content, module by module. Using sticky notes and visual elements, I map out the flow of information, ensuring a logical progression of topics and activities.

I then add details to each module, testing out the flow of text, making image notes, and a to-do list of infographics needed. This process allows me to make sure that I include all elements needed for asynchronous instruction. With Miro as my creative ally, I can bring the vision to life, crafting a visually captivating and pedagogically sound eLearning Tarot course.

Visual Mockups

Creating infographics for this eLearning Tarot course was an exciting process involving Adobe Photoshop. With Photoshop's powerful design tools, I seek to transform complex concepts into visually engaging and easily digestible images.

I begin by identifying the purpose of the infographic and then format it for maximum clarity. Using Photoshop's layers and editing capabilities to create PNG images, I combined individual images to create new illustrations such as the purple title cards.

Through precisely manipulating shapes, text, and images, I bring the Tarot symbolism to life, making abstract concepts more tangible and relatable. The final result is a collection of stunning visuals that enhance the learning experience, facilitating comprehension and retention of Tarot knowledge in a visually captivating manner.

Development

The development of this project went relatively quickly as I was able to navigate through Articulate Rise and transfer over content from the Miro board in a way that suited an asynchronous learning experience. Knowing that this project would be accessed on multiple types of devices, from desktops to mobile phones, I was careful to use large touch targets and display the information in a large, easy-to-read manner.

I balanced out content and text with images and interactions to make the learning experience “Learner Driven“. I enjoy creating moments that allow the learner to take ownership of their progress. Through the use of positive reinforcement and carefully crafted text, I allowed the learner to empower themselves and their curiosity. For example, the text on my continue buttons goes from:

“Complete the content above before unlocking more wisdom. You can do it. ⭐️” to

“🌀 I choose to seek more (click to continue)

Taking a “Call to action” and making it “a decision to take action”

Takeaways

First off, Tarot is a complex and abstract subject, and I faced the challenge of making it accessible and understandable to learners. Creating effective instructional strategies, such as interactive activities, real-life examples, and guided practice exercises, allowed me to simplify and convey abstract concepts in a meaningful and relatable way.

Developing a Tarot eLearning course required finding the right balance between providing a structured curriculum and allowing learners the flexibility to explore and interpret the cards independently. I learned to create a framework that offers guidance and structure while leaving room for personal exploration and growth.

Overall, creating a Tarot eLearning course has offered me a unique opportunity to deepen my creativity, enhance visual design skills, develop instructional strategies for abstract concepts, embrace storytelling, and balance structure and flexibility. These takeaways will be applied to future projects, enriching the instructional design process and creating meaningful learning experiences with a little more magic.
